Yes, you read that right! Planning to cheat is the answer to diet success! Hahaha! I know it sounds crazy, but hears the rationale…

  • If you know that you are only “giving up” something for a short stretch of time, you will be less likely to feel deprived, and you will be more likely to stay the course for the long haul.
  • Place a cheat day or cheat meal where you need it to be. Maybe you are going to a wedding and you want to splurge a little. Maybe you just want a slice of pizza, and a little garden salad just isn’t gonna cut it! The trick is to stay in control! YOU decide what day or meal you are going to cheat with and enjoy it. Then YOU continue just as if nothing ever happened. You got your craving satisfied and it was completely a conscious decision, so it’s all good!
  •  There’s no guilt or disappointment in yourself when you make a conscious choice to cheat! No need for diet destructive negative self talk. No need to throw in the towel and go hog wild eating everything in sight, because you “blew it”. You are in control of your diet decisions. You did nothing wrong by building in a cheat meal. You will be more likely to turn your diet into a lasting healthy lifestyle change if you cheat a little!
  • The key? The Cheat must be Pre-Planned! You can not randomly give in to the box of donuts that Joe “Never gains a pound” brings into the office. You can’t start doing the daily drive through at the McDonalds when it isn’t even on your way home! But I totally give you permission to pre-schedule a cheat meal or cheat day every now and then. This is your diet and you are totally in control!
